My Dad, Jack, accompanied Tooie on the Voyage of the Gemini. He was the only other member of the crew to spend time in a Havana jail with Tooie. That trip has always been a part of our family lore but my Dad’s death last May underscored how little I actually know about it. I have been in touch with his close friend, Jack Veatch (a Princeton classmate of Tooie’s), and he is sending a copy of the Havana Times article dated May 13, 1960, announcing the arrest. I noticed the photo of the Siamese cat posted to the blog. I recall my Dad had several trays of 35 mm slides from the trip in which a Siamese cat figured prominently, along with scruffy beards, some beautiful tuna, king mackerel and dorado they caught trolling and a few lobsters they scrounged. Hopefully, my Dad kept those slides and they will turn up in his attic some day. Let me know if you would like copies of anything I find related to the trip. I would love to know more about Tooie and any details you have regarding how the trip came about. Here is a link to my Dad’s obituary with a mention of the Voyage of the Gemini:
